Beemok Hospitality Collection’s The Cooper hotel began accepting guests March 30, following about six years of construction and three delayed opening dates.
The Cooper is the first and only waterfront hotel in downtown Charleston with 191 rooms, including 25 suites, ranging from about $1,200 to $16,700 per night, according to the website. The hotel opened synchronously with its signature restaurant, The Crossing, and a 7,000-square-foot spa.
“The Cooper fulfills BHC’s long-standing vision to bridge the gap between our historic downtown and the Cooper River, offering a perspective of Charleston that has never been accessible until now,” Lukus Grace, managing director of The Cooper, said in a news release. “Through deeply curated resort-style service and hospitality complemented by waterfront experiences once out of reach, we are providing a lens into the city that is entirely unique for both the community and our future guests.”
The Cooper is seated between the Charleston Waterfront Park and Union Pier on Concord Street. The hotel’s name was inspired by the Ashley Cooper River that it overlooks.
In addition to The Crossing, the hotel later this spring will open CurrentBurger and Cooper Coffee and Wine, which will be open to the guests and public, the release said. Bar Marti will be a poolside bar and restaurant exclusive to guests of The Cooper.
Other amenities offered by the hotel include a fleet of luxury boats, an infinity pool with cabanas and day beds, over 20,000 square feet of event space and a fitness center. Some rooms offer Juliette balconies or patios overlooking the harbor or downtown Charleston.
The Cooper Spa will offer treatments such as red-light therapy, cryotherapy loungers, experiential showers and a Sanarium sauna, with appointments available to guests and the public.
Champalimaud Design led the interior design of The Cooper, following a contemporary take on Charleston’s historic architecture.
“We are thrilled to be at the forefront of Charleston’s waterfront evolution, creating a destination where the harbor becomes a central part of the downtown experience,” Grace said.
