USC, Governor’s School launch new $10,000 scholarship program

Through a partnership between the and the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics, a new scholarship program will be offered for Governor’s School graduates on the campus.

The program, finalized by USC President and South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics President , is an initiative to create a path to USC from the Governor’s School, according to a news release.

“This scholarship program reflects our shared commitment to ensuring that South Carolina’s most talented students have access to exceptional educational opportunities within our state,” Amiridis said in the release. “By building on the strength of the Palmetto Fellows program and the outstanding preparation provided by GSSM, we are investing in academic excellence and in the long-term prosperity of South Carolina.”

A $10,000 award will be given to Governor’s School graduates who enroll as first-time, full-time students at USC and have been named Palmetto Fellows by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education, the release said.

“Our mission is to develop leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics for South Carolina,” Dorsel said in the release. “This new scholarship strengthens the partnership between GSSM and the University of South Carolina and creates meaningful opportunity for our graduates to continue their academic journeys at the state’s flagship institution.”
