Wehner joined Balfour Beatty in 2011, bringing experience in retail and construction. Over his tenure with the company, he has been instrumental in managing a diverse portfolio in the Carolinas that spans retail establishments, corporate headquarters, health care facilities and entertainment complexes, the release stated. Additionally, Mike’s leadership has been instrumental in diversifying the Carolinas project portfolio from majority office upfits to executing operations to deliver industrial labs, mission critical work and mid-size, ground-up building construction in the area.

Through Wehner’s expertise and ability to forge trusted relationships with clients and industry partners, he has led project teammates to successful completions of a multitude of projects across various market sectors, the release stated. These projects include Compass Group’s Global Headquarters renovation, which earned a first place Eagle Award at the 2014 Associated Builders & Contractors Excellence in Construction competition, as well as projects for TIAA-CREF, First Citizens Bank, Wells Fargo, Citi Bank, Vanguard, Suffolk Punch Brewery, PetSuites, Trane Technologies and Clariant.

“I’m honored to take on this expanded role and continue building on our growth strategy in the Carolinas,” said Wehner said in the release. “My focus remains being a Relentless Ally for our clients while developing and training our exceptional talent to embody our company’s people-first culture. Our successful project deliveries don’t just serve our clients; they strengthen and grow our teammates and local communities.”

Wehner’s dedication to expanding the company’s project portfolio and maintaining the geography’s impressive repeat-client rate, while also mentoring emerging professionals demonstrates the alignment between professional development and strategic, operational growth in the Carolinas, the release stated.

“Mike’s promotion reflects our commitment to developing leaders who embody our values of operational excellence and client partnership,” said Jeff Sandeen, Balfour Beatty president in the Carolinas, in the release. “His collaborative approach and proven track record of successful project delivery make him the ideal leader to drive our growth strategy and continue making meaningful impacts in the communities we serve.

“Additionally, Mike has consistently demonstrated his ability to develop our talent while maintaining our commitment to legacy clients and his leadership will be instrumental as we continue to diversify and grow our Special Projects Group.”
