Greenville hotel named top resort in South Carolina, one of world’s best

Greenville hotel named top resort in South Carolina, one of world’s best

Travel + Leisure magazine readers have named a Greenville hotel one of the top 100 resorts in the world, and No. 1 in South Carolina.

Hotel Hartness been ranked the no. 1 resort in South Carolina in the 2024 Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards, which recognizes the top hotels, islands, cities, cruise lines, airlines, spas and more across the globe, according to a readers’ survey.

The hotel came in at No. 24 on the world’s top 100 list.

Hotel Hartness wasn’t the only South Carolina hotel appearing on the list, however. The Willcox in Aiken came in at No. 75.

“With its 23 rooms and suites — and quintessential Southern charm — this former estate has lured in discerning travelers for more than a century,” Travel + Leisure said of the Willcox.

In this year’s World’s Best Awards, 38 countries made an appearance on the 2024 list, according to Travel + Leisure’s website. Properties in destinations like India and Southeast Asia are among the highest scorers this year, along with 16 U.S. properties, according to the site.

A family home turned luxury boutique hotel, Hotel Hartness opened in March of last year, according to the release. Managed by Hay Creek Hotels and located within the nearly 500-acre Hartness community, it represents the Southern hospitality of the Hartness family blended with the area’s past and presented in a contemporary design. Hotel Hartness features 73 modern guest rooms and suites, as well as Patterson Kitchen + Bar, The Captain, Spa H, an on-site farm, and a 180-acre nature preserve.

“The World’s Best is a leading barometer of the places and companies that satisfy some of the most discerning travelers and we are honored to be named to the list and at the top of our category,” said Hotel Hartness General Manager Albert Mertz in a news release. “Excellence is never an accident,and this recognition is a powerful testament to the superior experience and personal service our team provides.

“Passionate and highly dedicated, we work together to achieve service initiatives based on world-class benchmarks that position us to not only be the best in the market, but compete at a national and international level.”
