The Metropolitan Sewer Subdistrict, doing business as MetroConnects, has opened its new 23-acre campus at 1151 W. Butler Road in Greenville.
An opening ceremony marked a milestone in the special purpose district’s growth and MetroConnects’ commitment to serving Greenville County as its wastewater collection provider, the organization said in a news release.
“MetroConnects realized the need for a campus designed not just for today’s demands but for the future,” General Manager Carol Elliott said in the news release. “This new campus reflects a commitment to planning ahead, strengthening essential services and ensuring we are prepared to serve Greenville County for decades to come.”
The new $32 million campus keeps all major functions of the organization in one location, improving efficiency and supporting long-term infrastructure needs. Key features include:
The site was developed with environmental stewardship in mind, incorporating natural buffers and landscaping that complement the surrounding community, according to the release. The project team consisted of JLL, Vannoy Construction, DP3 Architects and Thomas & Hutton.
MetroConnects is one of the largest wastewater collection providers in South Carolina, serving more than 106,000 customer accounts and maintaining 1,500 miles of wastewater collection infrastructure throughout Greenville County.
The special purpose district plays a role in protecting public health, safeguarding natural resources, and ensuring wastewater is safely conveyed to Renewable Water Resources (ReWa) for treatment.
The property was once owned by Lawrence Ashmore, who served as MetroConnects’ first general manager, retiring in 1995.
MetroConnects provides wastewater collection services in Greenville County and transports more than 20 million gallons of wastewater per day to ReWa for treatment and disposal.
