John O. Williams has served Berkeley County in expanding leadership roles since 2015. Williams began as county attorney, advancing to deputy supervisor in March 2021 while maintaining his legal responsibilities. In February 2024, he assumed the additional role of economic development director, guiding the county’s business growth initiatives while continuing as head county attorney.

A Berkeley County native, Williams graduated from Berkeley High School before earning a civil engineering degree from Clemson University and his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina. Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable R. Markley Dennis Jr. of the South Carolina Circuit Court. Williams then served as an assistant solicitor with the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office before entering private practice with Williams & Hulst LLC in Moncks Corner from 2012 to 2014.

His unique combination of engineering background and legal expertise positions him to address complex development and governance challenges facing the rapidly growing coastal county.
