F. Allan Clum leads Mount Pleasant Waterworks, overseeing operations for an organization with 170 employees and $72 million in annual revenue. Clum earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from the College of Charleston and a Master of Science in environmental studies from the Medical University of South Carolina.
His career began as an analytical chemist in an environmental laboratory, where he learned the importance of supporting employees and building effective teams. As general manager, Clum now guides the utility’s strategic initiatives, including a pilot well project investigating the Gramling Aquifer. If successful, this new water source combined with advanced reverse osmosis treatment will secure the region’s water supply for the next century.
Clum serves as board treasurer for the Southeastern Desalting Association and holds positions on the Santee River Basin Council, WateReuse of South Carolina and The Citadel Near Center for Climate Studies Advisory Board. He defines success as living by his values and treating people with respect. “Show up. Work hard,” Clum said.
