The has named Trey Oakley its new CEO. Following a 12-month national search, the YMCA’s board selected Oakley for a tenure that will begin during the first week of August.

In his new role, Oakley is charged with providing strategic for the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg, working alongside the board, staff, volunteers, and community partners to strengthen the YMCA’s impact, expand opportunities for individuals and families, and support the organization’s growth throughout Spartanburg and Polk counties, according to a news release.

“During our search for a new CEO, we looked at candidates from throughout the country, but Trey Oakley stood out among the rest,” said Eliot Stone, chair of the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg Board of Directors. “His energy and vision for the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg are exactly what we were looking for in a leader. Trey joins our YMCA after more than 15 years leading the YMCA of theHigh Country, where he built a reputation as a mission-driven leader. During his tenure, he transformed the association into a thriving multi-branch organization, secured more than $30 million in capital investments, expanded access to youth, wellness and early learning programs, and forged lasting partnerships that strengthened communities across Western North Carolina. With Trey’s experience and passion for the YMCA’s mission, we are convinced that the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg will have fantastic leadership for years to come. The board is deeply grateful to search committee chair Sam Galloway and the committee for their dedication and leadership throughout the search process.”

Oakley spent more than 15 years leading the YMCA of the High Country as its CEO. He has a Bachelor of Science in physical education and health from .

“I am incredibly thankful to the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg Board of Directors and staff for the trust and confidence they have placed in me,” Oakley said in the release. “I look forward to working alongside this outstanding team as we build upon the strong foundation established by the leaders who came before us. We can’t wait to begin this next chapter together and continue strengthening the YMCA’s mission of building a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.”
