Over the past 15 years, Amazon has contributed over $8.5 billion and 6,000 jobs to South Carolina. Now, the company has added a new Lowcountry facility to the mix.

Amazon opened a last-mile delivery facility in Orangeburg to increase delivery speeds, according to a news release.

“We’re excited to join the Orangeburg community with our new last-mile delivery station,” Sam Blatt, Amazon’s senior manager of economic development for South Carolina, said in the release. “South Carolina continues to be a great place for Amazon to invest and grow, and this facility helps us deliver for customers while creating quality jobs with competitive wages up to $19 per hour. Our partnership with throughout this project has been valuable, and we’re very thankful for their support.”

The 39,000-square-foot delivery station sits on 10 acres of John W. Matthews Jr. Industrial Park. According to the release, the campus will offer jobs for local workers and delivery drivers with benefits and education opportunities.

“Orangeburg County is proud to welcome Amazon to the John W. Matthews Jr. Industrial Park. This announcement represents new opportunities and continued growth for the people of our community,” Johnnie Wright, chairman of Orangeburg County Council, said in the release. “The jobs created through this investment will have a lasting impact for families right here at home. We are grateful for Amazon’s confidence in Orangeburg County and for the teamwork that made this day possible.”
