Breeze Airways will begin 2026 with its first international flight, and Charleston will serve as the U.S. runway.

According to a news release, on Jan. 17, 2026, a non-stop Breeze Airways flight will operate once a week from Charleston International to Cancun International Airport, pending final government approvals.

“We are proud to partner with Breeze Airways on this incredible milestone,” Elliott Summey, president and CEO, said in the release. “This new international route not only strengthens Charleston’s connectivity to one of the most popular leisure destinations but also supports our local economy by creating new opportunities for tourism, hospitality and business travel.”

Breeze has been certified by the FAA as a U.S. flag carrier, making it the first airline in more than 10 years to undergo this evaluation process, according to the release.

Breeze has been in service in Charleston since May 2021, offering flights to over two dozen popular U.S. destinations.

“Charleston was one of our original launch cities and we’re excited to once again include the community in the launch of our first next year,” David Neeleman, Breeze Airways’ founder and CEO, said in the release. “This new route to Cancun will be the third international route from CHS, and we know the community will enjoy the convenient and nonstop service to this beautiful, tropical destination.”

Breeze is currently the No. 1 carrier in CHS in terms of number of destinations served, according to the release.

“Charleston International Airport has proudly been a part of the Breeze Airways’ story since the carrier’s inception and inaugural service in 2021. It’s an honor to build on that legacy as our partner launches international service,” said Helen Hill, president and CEO of Explore Charleston and chair of the Aviation Authority. “This expansion is a significant milestone for both the airline and the Charleston region, and it reflects the unwavering commitment of the carrier and Charleston International to more conveniently connect travelers to new markets. Together, we look forward to helping our passengers create unforgettable memories as they explore the beauty of Cancun and beyond.”
