Greenville begins work on key infrastructure projects

Work has begun in Greenville on four infrastructure projects designed to improve safety and enhance connectivity.

Engineering Director Clint Link in a news release outlined the schedule for projects along East North Street, Verdae Boulevard and West Antrim Drive.

“This work reflects a commitment to City Council’s priorities of mobility, neighborhoods and recreation and we are thrilled to be moving into the construction phase of these highly anticipated capital improvement projects,” Link said. “The projects will enhance overall accessibility for our community and pedestrian safety through the creation of wide, landscape buffered sidewalks, a grade separated crossing for the Swamp Rabbit Trail Green Line over Verdae Boulevard and enhanced street lighting.

“In addition to the quality of life benefits of these projects, the landscaping and lighting will also provide aesthetic enhancements to these important transportation corridors in the city.”

Here’s a project roundup from the release:

• The West Antrim Sidewalk project is underway. Expect daytime lane closures. The project extends from Laurens to Greenacre roads. It features the removal of one lane to accommodate the construction of a new sidewalk. It should be completed within three months.
• Construction on the Swamp Rabbit Trail Pedestrian Bridge over Verdae will begin in July. Expect periodic lane closures. Verdae Boulevard will be shut down for a few hours one night at a later date to set the structure over the roadway. The project is expected to be completed in Spring 2026.
• The Hudson Street Bridge Replacement construction it set to begin July 7. The bridge was damaged during Hurricane Helene. The project managed by SCDOT is expected to be completed by October 2025.
• Construction on the East North Streetscape project begins July 7. It includes a permanent closure of a westbound lane to create wider sidewalks and a landscaped buffer for a safer pedestrian connection between downtown and the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. The project extends from Church Street to the East North/Interstate 385 roadway name change. Residents can expect a mix of nighttime and daytime lane closures. Traffic will remain open in each direction throughout the project. The project is estimated to be completed by the end of 2025.
