Stuart Whiteside has led SeamonWhiteside as principal in charge while building a career rooted in civil engineering excellence. After earning his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1978 and master’s degree in civil engineering in 1979 from Clemson University, Whiteside entered the engineering industry where early experiences with weak leadership taught him to prioritize employees.

Under his leadership, SeamonWhiteside has grown to 220 employees and opened a Columbia office in October 2025. Whiteside is transitioning to a part-time advisory role in November 2025.

His civic involvement includes serving as chairman of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce in 2013 and board positions with Trident Technical College Foundation, Charleston Regional Development Authority and Clemson University Advancement Board for Real Estate Development. He served on the American Heart Association Lowcountry Heart Walk Executive Leadership Team from 2017 to 2025.

Clemson University’s Civil Engineering Department honored Whiteside with its 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award. “Don’t join an organization just to join,” he said. “Join to be involved and take a leadership role.”
