Gerald Murphy leads BASF’s White Stone and Mauldin sites, overseeing operations at the global chemical company with 112,000 employees worldwide. Murphy earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Clemson University and an MBA from the University of South Carolina.

Murphy began his career as a plant process engineer, where he developed skills in decision making with limited information and influential leadership. His approach centers on building strong teams and sustainable achievement. “The only person to never make a mistake is the person who never made a decision,” Murphy said, noting this philosophy guides both his leadership and team development strategy.

Murphy has received multiple recognitions including the 2024 SC Biz Magazine Power List Honors for Manufacturing and several BASF excellence recognitions.

In the community, Murphy serves as an assistant scoutmaster for Scouting America, youth sports coach and an advisory board member for the SC Manufacturing Conference.
