Winslow Hastie earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of the South at Sewanee and a Master of Arts from the University of Georgia before dedicating his career to historic preservation in Charleston.

As CEO of Historic Charleston Foundation, Hastie leads a team of 26 employees working to preserve and sustain Charleston’s people, historic places, culture and community. Under his leadership, the Foundation has secured significant funding for critical preservation initiatives, including a $1.25 million grant from the Mellon Foundation to revitalize Mosquito Beach on James Island and another $1.25 million grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to support the Common Cause loan fund program, which provides financial assistance to income-qualified legacy homeowners for historic home renovations.

Hastie serves on the Board of Directors of Preservation Action and Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, the Advisory Board for the American College of the Building Arts, and the Board of the Friends of the Lowcountry Lowline. He said the best advice he ever received was to be yourself, enjoy what you do, and you will ultimately be successful both in your work and for your own personal satisfaction.
