Australian-based Detpak brings first U.S. operations to Spartanburg

Detpak, a global packaging supplier, announced its first U.S. manufacturing operations in Spartanburg County.

The Detpak USA facility will create more than 50 jobs in its first phase. The company did not reveal what it would spend on the project but called it a multi-million-dollar investment.

“As we continue to grow our global footprint, opening our own manufacturing facility in the United States is a key milestone for our business,” Detmold Group CEO Sascha Detmold Cox said in a news release. “It allows us to better support our customers with locally manufactured products and reinforces our commitment to the U.S. market where we have been supplying customers for over 20 years. We’re focused on building long-term partnerships and delivering the same level of service, innovation and reliability that our customers experience globally. We’re proud to be investing in the Spartanburg community and creating new employment opportunities in South Carolina.”

Since 1981, the manufacturer has specialized in supplies for quick-service restaurants, food service, fast-moving consumer goods and retail customers, according to the company. Detpak is a subsidiary of the Australian company Detmold Group, which sells its products in 45 countries and has operations in eight.

The new operations will be located at 2781 New Cut Road, accompanying  two other U.S. Detmold sales locations in Los Angeles and Tampa, Fla. The facility will have 175,000 square feet of production space that use both imported and locally sourced materials.

The Commerce Department’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development provided a $100,000 Set-Aside grant to Spartanburg County for the cost of building improvements. Operations are expected to be online in August.
