The South Carolina Department of Commerceappointed Dorothy Weaver as the director of marketing and communications as well as the department’s chief spokesperson.
According to a news release, Weaver has spent 25 years in mass communication, advertising, digital communication and brand strategy.
“South Carolina has earned an international reputation as a state where companies can build lasting legacies. Dorothy’s depth of experience and storytelling expertise will be instrumental in elevating how South Carolina presents itself globally – clearly articulating the state’s unique value propositions and competitive strengths,” Secretary of Commerce Harry Lightsey said in the release.
Weaver’s career has included positions in both private and public sectors. Most recently she served for 10 years at the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce, eight of those years as director of strategic communications.
A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Weaver earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Mass Communication. The Commerce Department said she is also a South Carolina Certified Public Manager.
