Instel Power Products stands as the leading electrical solutions provider in the Upstate, operating from an 80,000 square foot warehouse in Simpsonville. The family-owned business has been serving Fortune 1000 companies for nearly six decades with a mission to re-energize electrical solutions backed by extensive experience.
Co-owners William Jackson and Matt Jackson, who have led the company since 2020, represent the second generation of family leadership. The brothers guide a team of 23 employees who specialize in electrical testing, product sales and repairs for industrial manufacturing clients with diverse vintage equipment needs.
“Instel Power Products was established in 1967 as one of the first in the U.S. to offer independent testing service,” according to company records. The business originally set up operations to provide electrical testing, sell products and complete repairs, establishing a foundation that would prove remarkably adaptable over the decades.
Stuart Jackson joined the company in 1983 as president, ushering in a period of significant growth. During the early 2000s, Instel experienced several ownership transitions while expanding to more than 65 employees. However, the company has since returned to its core focus of service and testing, operating with a more streamlined approach that emphasizes agility and personalized attention.
The company’s resilience has been tested through various challenges, including adapting operations during COVID-19, restoring power at an Upstate equipment manufacturer following tornado damage and providing hurricane relief in 2024. Key strategic moves include acquiring PWR, which expanded the company’s capabilities and market reach.
“Our mission has always been rooted in pride in our products and services,” company leadership notes, emphasizing the commitment to quality that has sustained long-term client relationships across multiple economic cycles.
Instel’s workplace culture reflects its family-owned heritage, creating an environment where employees are treated as family members. This approach has fostered a team of problem-solvers who respond quickly when urgent situations arise, particularly during power system emergencies affecting major industrial clients.
Community engagement remains central to the company’s identity. As a founding family of the Kim S. Miller Family Enterprise Institute of South Carolina at Anderson University, the Jacksons support other family-owned businesses throughout the state. The company also sponsors local initiatives including Greenville High School’s Spirit Week, student programs at Augusta Circle Elementary Schoo.
Operating from 303 Greer Drive in Simpsonville, Instel Power Products continues competing against larger corporations by leveraging its speed, streamlined processes and deep investment in every project.
