Orangeburg to host 2027 Diamond Youth Baseball World Series

The City of Orangeburg has been chosen as the host for the 2027 Diamond Youth Baseball World Series, a national youth baseball tournament, that will provide a boost to the regional economy.  

Orangeburg previously hosted the 2024 Coach Pitch World Series which had a $1.4 million economic impact on the community, according to a news release. Organizers expect the upcoming tournament to triple that number. 

“Orangeburg is ready for this incredible opportunity to host the 2027 Diamond Youth Baseball World Series. This tournament not only showcases the incredible talent of our youth athletes, but it also provides a tremendous economic boost and opportunity to share all that our city has to offer with families from across the nation,” Orangeburg Mayor Michael Butler said in the release. “The city of Orangeburg is committed to providing a memorable tournament experience with top-notch facilities, hospitality and entertainment for athletes and fans alike.” 

The timeframe for the tournament will be announced at a later date.

The DYB World Series includes 72 teams of boys ages 9 to 12 competing over two weekends. The event includes players and their families from 11 states with teams in Division I and II AAA Minors, Majors and “O” Zone, the release said.  

“We hope that everyone who comes to Orangeburg for this tournament gains what we like to call the three E’s: exposure, experience and excitement,” Shawn Taylor, director of parks and recreation, said in the release. “From our local amenities to our welcoming community, this tournament is a chance to create awareness about why Orangeburg is a premier destination for youth sports for years to come.”
