Orangeburg builder leads new luxury apartments in Columbia

An Orangeburg-headquartered general contractor has been chosen to guide construction of a Midlands apartment development.

CF Evans Construction has been selected by Commonwealth Properties as the general contractor for 2222 Main View, a luxury 320-unit apartment community in downtown Columbia.

Located along Columbia’s historic Main Street corridor just one block from downtown, 2222 Main View will feature a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom residences, along with select live-work units, according to a news release. Designed to complement the city’s urban core, the project will include landscaped courtyards, a resort-style pool and cabanas, two rooftop terraces and clubrooms with skyline views, and a full suite of lifestyle amenities including a coworking suite, fitness club, meditation studio, rooftop dog park and pet spa, the release stated.

Construction is now underway, with first move-ins anticipated in March 2027.

“With the help and cooperation of the City of Columbia, Mayor Daniel Rickenmann, Senator Lindsay Graham, the Cottontown and Elmwood Neighborhood Associations, the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services, and HUD we were able to remove a longstanding eyesore to the community and are underway on building 320 new luxury housing units and creating dozens of jobs,” said Jack Middleton, president and partner of Commonwealth Properties, the developer of 2222 Main View, in the release.

The property represents Richmond-based Commonwealth Properties’ 14th multifamily development and third in Columbia.

CF Evans was also recently named to Engineering News-Record’s 2025 Top 100 Green Contractors, earning the number 73 spot nationally, the release stated.
