Gene Fant leads North Greenville University, which generates $56 million in annual revenue and employs 800 full- and part-time staff. The university recently expanded its academic degree offerings in healthcare and updated its programs in business and entrepreneurship.

Fant holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Southern Mississippi, a post-doctoral certificate in educational management from Harvard University and five additional graduate degrees spanning education, theology and English. He began his career as a midnight shift short-order cook at Jack-in-the-Box during 11th grade, where he learned to work under pressure and appreciate teamwork in professional settings.

“Learn from the past but never let it dominate your mindset,” Fant said. “Be relentlessly future-oriented and never forget that the past is a case study for what happens next, not a place to dwell.”

Fant serves on the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education and previously served as vice chair of the South Carolina Tuition Grants Commission. He is a deacon at Taylors First Baptist Church.
