Key Accomplishments

Under Dr. Roslyn Clark Artis’ tenure, the quality of education improved dramatically. She strengthened curriculum policies and academic admission standards, raised GPAs and graduation rates, reduced tuition, and reaffirmed SACS-COC accreditation with no recommendations. More broadly, Dr. Artis focused on the resilience of the college. She reduced the college’s debt by $56 million, stabilized the institution’s federal financial standing, and repaid endowment funds and employee retirement contributions. She attracted new supporters, bringing in the largest philanthropic gifts in the college’s history, developing international corporate partnerships, and expanding alumni contributions, shattering the $1.5 million fundraising goal over ten consecutive years.

Dr. Artis also secured substantial monetary grants, student, faculty, staff, and athletic awards, partnerships, memorandum of agreements, new majors and micro-credential programs, support for students, including internships and fellowships awarded to students, student competitions, challenges, inductions, volunteerisms, and athletic accolades, all in support of The BESTofBC.

Among her most significant achievements to date has been shepherding the campus through the many threats posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Artis administration masterfully managed a smooth transition to virtual teaching and learning for students and faculty during the height of the pandemic. Dr. Artis found new and uncommon ways to support national and international students, ensuring reliable transportation home for 400 students in the early days of the crisis and maintaining safety, academic success, and campus traditions, including Commencement, which was never cancelled
