Palmetto Place Apartments in Fort Mill has been acquired by a real estate investment and property management company based in Kirkland, Wash.
The purchase was made for an undisclosed sum by Weidner Apartment Homes, which says it is the 12th-largest owner of multifamily housing in the United States. Palmetto Place is Weidner’s first community in South Carolina, although For Mill is part of the Charlotte MSA, where its portfolio now comes to 1,068 apartment homes, according to a news release.
Built in 1996 on 12.55 acres, Palmetto Place is a 184-unit garden-style community with various one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes totaling 177,508 square feet of net rentable area. The community features three finish levels across the unit mix. In recent years, the community’s shared spaces, amenities and landscaping have recently undergone capital improvements, the release stated.
In-home features include fireplaces, stainless steel appliances, wood-style plank flooring, walk-in closets, full-size in-unit laundry, and private patios or balconies. Community amenities include a clubhouse, fitness center, pool with sundeck, bark park, playground, gazebo with grilling stations, and the updated sports court. The property also provides 346 surface parking spaces.
Weidner said in chose Fort Mill because the town has emerged as one of the most desirable residential areas in the Carolinas, driven by sustained in-migration, a robust employment base and nationally recognized schools. The town is 20 minutes south of Charlotte’s central business district.
Weidner Apartment Homes is the sole owner and manager of Palmetto Place Apartments.
Founded by W. Dean Weidner in 1977, Weidner Apartment Homes is a real estate investment and property management company with a portfolio that spans 14 U.S. states and four Canadian provinces.
