AmbioPharm plans $119M expansion in Aiken County, more jobs

AmbioPharm plans $119M expansion in Aiken County, more jobs

A peptide manufacturer and developer today, June 16, announced it is expanding its operations in Aiken County. The company’s $118.96 million investment will create 202 new jobs, according to the state Commerce Department.

Founded in 2005, AmbioPharm Inc. is headquartered in North Augusta and specializes in developing highly efficient processes for peptide-based active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) at small to very large scales, according to a news release. The company manufactures new chemical entities and peptide APIs under current good manufacturing practice (GMP) regulations for clients worldwide.

As part of its expansion, AmbioPharm will construct a modular manufacturing building at its existing South Carolina campus, located at 1024 Dittman Court in North Augusta. The facility will offer commercial-scale GMP synthesis, solid-phase peptide synthesis, liquid-phase peptide synthesis and hybrid approaches, all supported by semi-automated production systems and advanced solvent delivery infrastructure, the release stated.

“As the global demand for peptide therapeutics accelerates, the need for dependable U.S. manufacturing is extremely important,” AmbioPharm CEO Brian Gregg said in the release. “This expansion enhances our ability to support our client-partners with scalable, high-quality production while creating new opportunities for skilled talent in Aiken County.”

Operations are expected to be online by the end of 2027.

This announcement further strengthens Aiken County’s position as a leader in and .”

In May, CordenPharma, a company based in Basel, Switzerland, announced that it had entered into an agreement to acquire AmbioPharm, which also has a manufacturing facility in China. CordenPharma has 11 sites in Europe and North America.
