Fortified Solar to make $23M expansion in Greenville County, add 151 jobs

Upstate-based Fortified Solar, which manufactures steel solar roofing systems, is investing $22.75 million into Greenville County operations.

The company was founded in 2020 in Travelers Rest and continues production in the Upstate. The investment is expected to bring 151 new jobs.

“This expansion represents an important milestone for Fortified Solar as we continue to invest in American manufacturing and meet growing demand for integrated solar roofing solutions,” Fortified Solar CEO Justin Draplin said in a news release. “Greenville County has been a strong foundation for our growth and this investment allows us to increase production capacity, create new jobs and strengthen our ability to serve individuals across the country.”

Fortified Solar specializes in commercial and residential roofing with building-integrated photovoltaic technology, solar carports, canopies and storage solutions.

In addition to its previous manufacturing facility in Taylors, the new operations will be located at 10 A. D. Asbury Road in Greenville. Both facilities are operational, with the new location to reach full production in October following the addition of new manufacturing lines.

The Commerce Department’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development awarded a $150,000 Set-Aside grant to Greenville County to help with building improvement costs. The council also approved job development credits for the project.
