Waterfront outfitter opens in Johns Island community

A waterfront outfitter has opened in a planned, environment-focused community on Johns Island.

Kiawah River, the region’s first agrihood, has revealed the grand opening of The Landing, a one-stop-shop outfitter to book eco-tours and consult expert guides with Coastal Expeditions, according to a news release.

Designed by Reggie Gibson Architects, the shop is located in the heart of Jack Island Village in Kiawah River, the release stated. In addition to being staffed full-time, The Landing offers kayak and paddleboard rentals, as well as an outfitter shop with gear and gifts, with proceeds benefitting the work of the Coastal Expeditions Foundation, including educational field trips and habitat conservation.

Coastal Expeditions, which currently launches tours from Kiawah River in addition to its Shem Creek location, offers guided kayak, paddleboard and boat tours, as well as special programming for local schools, field trips and on-site field studies, according to the release. These tours include a Kiawah River Safari Cruise for $85 per person, Kiawah River Kayak Tour for $75 per person, a Kiawah River Full Moon Kayak Tour for $75 per person, Kiawah River Paddle and Hike for $115 per person and the Kiawah River Safari Cruise is also available for private charter.

“Kiawah River’s 20 miles of shoreline and 2,000 acres of picturesque landscape provide the ideal outpost to learn from the spectacular and diverse species living right here,” said Coastal Expeditions founder Chris Crolley, in the release. “From bald eagles and roseate spoonbills to pods of bottlenose dolphins, Kiawah River is a nature lover’s dream.”

The Landing joins Kiawah River’s current list of amenities including the Spring House waterfront pool and fitness center, Farmstead Sports Park, Rosebank Farms farmstand and the new Dunlin, Auberge Resorts Collection boutique hotel.

“Life at Kiawah River is centered on outdoor pursuits, and it was important that our residents, future resort guests and the larger community have access to top naturalists and environmental experts to fully embrace life along the pristine Kiawah River and inland waterways,” said Jeff Snyder, Kiawah River’s chief environmental officer, in the release.

Kiawah River offers a variety of homes starting at $1,500,000 and homesites starting in the mid-$200,000s. The community has been planned to embrace outdoor living, with only half of the property’s 2,000 acres planned for development, and the remaining 1,000 acres to remain open/green space. In addition to its array of resort-style amenities and services, residents have access to several launch points for fishing and boating to explore the pristine Kiawah River and inland waterways.
