What can South Carolina do to foster an adaptable workforce that is more resilient to factors like a pandemic?

South Carolina can invest in continuous learning and flexible skill development programs, ensuring workers are prepared to navigate rapid changes in the economy. Embracing technology and adopting remote work solutions where possible will also help our workforce remain agile and resilient in the face of future challenges.

How has skill-based hiring versus educational background made an impact in South Carolina?

Shifting our focus to skill-based hiring has opened doors for a wider and more diverse talent pool. It allows us to evaluate candidates on what they can do rather than just where they went to school, which is particularly important as the pace of change in required job skills accelerates. In South Carolina, we’ve seen stronger workplace performance, increased employee satisfaction, and better retention rates by prioritizing real-world skills and potential over traditional credentials alone.

What is the key to upskilling South Carolina’s workforce?

A proactive collaboration approach is key — between employers, educators, and community leaders — to identify emerging skills and deliver relevant training. We must make professional development accessible, affordable, and aligned with both current and future industry needs in our South Carolina markets. Investing in mentorship and on-the-job training will help our workforce evolve alongside the demands of the market.

How has technology like people analytics and AI integration changed the hiring game?

Technologies such as people analytics and AI have revolutionized hiring by providing deeper insights into candidate fit, performance potential, and employee engagement. We can now make more informed decisions, minimize unconscious bias, and predict workforce trends more accurately. These tools enable us to match people not only to roles but also to organizational culture, helping both individuals and companies thrive.  In the staffing industry, AI has allowed us to automate some of the administrative and basic tasks which allows the team more time to build relationships with our candidates and clients.

How do you strategize between a remote, hybrid, and work-from-office-only approach to the workplace?

The right strategy depends on understanding both organizational needs and employee preferences. At Find Great People, we assess the nature of each role, team dynamics, and the importance of in-person collaboration. We value flexibility and strive to offer options — whether remote, hybrid, or in-office — that maximize productivity while supporting work-life balance. Regular feedback from our team helps us refine our approach over time. Like most companies, our strategy has changed since COVID, but I believe we have found a good balance that feels successful to both our company and team.

What is something someone might be surprised to know about you?

People might be surprised to know that I am a bigger college football fan than my husband. My ideal Saturday in the fall is turning on GameDay in the morning and football games all day.  South Carolina Gamecocks are my favorite team and I have been a loyal fan for many years but this is going to be “our” year!
