What can South Carolina do to foster an adaptable workforce that is more resilient to factors like a pandemic?

Stay competitive in pay with our region, allow short-term work arrangements with family schedules, such as remote work and flexible hours.

How has skill-based hiring versus educational background made an impact in South Carolina?

Luckily, South Carolina appreciates both educational backgrounds and skill-based experienced workers. As some companies do require a four-year degree or accept candidates currently enrolled in a degree program, some are open to candidates that have 10-years or more experience in their field with no degree.

What is the key to upskilling South Carolina’s workforce?

We have strong technical schools that work closely with manufacturing companies that encourage all ages to grow their skillset and careers through their valued programs. Encouraging companies to have continued educational programs for all sectors of the business community.  Being involved in Associations such as Chamber of Commerce who have wonderful programs for their investors/members to grow professionally.

How has technology like people analytics (using data on employee performance, skills, engagement and sentiment to predict the future of the workforce) and AI integration changed the hiring game?

As technology has changed many processes through my 27 years in staffing, there will never be a replacement of the human connection in Human Resources and Recruiting. Streamlining is always important and helps all businesses, people analytics and AI integration can assist in making our businesses more efficient and are welcomed technology. As for predicting workforce, it is up to human nature and the will to thrive to take care of oneself and one’s family. Snelling Staffing encourages positive personnel growth and accountability while working with our team.

How do you strategize between a remote, hybrid and work-from-office-only approach to the workplace?

These workplace options all depend on the company structure and how the employee can meet profit margins in getting tasks done. All three work environments may to be offered as not everyone is able to work remote or office only. However, not every company is set up to give these options either. Companies just need to know what works best for their team to be successful and they will find employees that will work the option(s) offered.
