Congaree Vista, an official South Carolina Cultural District, has collected more than $475 million in investment, positioning the community as one of downtown Columbia’s most active economic centers.
According to a news release, since 2020, Congaree Vista projects have totaled more than $236 million, which include large-scale, mixed-use, hotel and public-space developments.
The Congaree Vista Guild also found that an additional $240 million of projects are currently planned or underway.
“The scale and diversity of these projects show that the Vista is no longer driven by a single sector,” Abby Anderson, Congaree Vista Guild executive director, said in the release. “Hospitality, residential, office and public investments are all moving forward at the same time, which is a strong indicator of long-term economic stability.”
The community, which is a few blocks away from the South Carolina State House, includes galleries, restaurants, hotels, condominiums, office space and retail, the release said. One of the contributions is Gateway 737, a $170 million mixed-use development with student housing, retail space and parking.
The Congaree Vista Guild said other large investments include the $15.1 million Cambria Hotel, $12.28 million Homewood Suites and Tru by Hilton, and the $21.5 million redevelopment of Finlay Park.
The $240 million in planned projects will see $85 million Verve Columbia, $50 million Palmetto Place SC and mixed-use development Local Columbia, which will be roughly $80 million.
