Julie Kunkle has been promoted to director of global business development for the South Carolina Department of Commerce, following six years as deputy director in business services.

Joining the S.C. Commerce team in 2020, Kunkle has almost 30 years of experience with business development, strategy and organizational leadership, according to a news release.

“South Carolina has a proven track record of helping companies achieve success from launch to legacy. Julie Kunkle’s future-focused, innovative approach — grounded in long-term competitiveness and execution — will ensure S.C. Commerce continues to recruit and retain economic opportunities for all South Carolinians,” Secretary of Commerce Harry Lightsey said in the release.

Kunkle began her career in sales and marketing with Unilever and Gannett, later moving into the technology sector at AOL. S.C. Commerce said Kunkle has led statewide initiatives in innovation and entrepreneurship fields across government, industry, higher education and nonprofits sectors.
