Muc-Off opens bike product distribution center in West Columbia

A company founded by a British bicycle innovator who just couldn’t keep his bikes clean enough is setting up a distribution facility in West Columbia.

Colliers South Carolina‘s Chuck Salley, Thomas Beard and John Peebles represented Magnus Development Partners in the lease of 56,160 square feet of industrial space to Muc-Off at 803 Park, 425 Distribution Drive.

Rex and Marilyn Trimnell founded the company by designing and manufacturing what they called the world’s first twin crown bicycle fork and lightest bar ends, according to the company’s website. Rex Trimnell was frustrated at how long it took him to wash his bike so he explored available technologies and created a pink cleaner. The endeavor has grown to today’s company that provides a wide variety of products and accessories for bicycles and motorcycles, as well as related apparel.
The company chose the 803 Park facility as a distribution center based on its proximity to the U.S. supply chain, according to a news release from Colliers.
“Muc-Off’s lease at 803 Park represents its initiative to bring warehousing and distribution operations in-house,” Beard, vice president-industrial services at Colliers, said in the release. “Proximity to the UPS Air Hub was a key factor in the decision, and 803 Park was clearly the most suitable option in the market.”

Muc-Off was founded in 1994 and is the fastest growing bike lifestyle and maintenance brand in the United Kingdom, according to the company’s Linked-In page. Following five years of growth the company is expanding fast into the European, Asian and North American markets, focusing on its core categories of cycling, motorcycle and athlete performance products.

The company’s U.S. base is in New York City.

“We are super excited to be opening our new site in Columbia,” CEO Alex Trimnell said in the release. “This is a key step in building our commitment and capability in the U.S. further so that we can help even more riders get the very best from their rides.”

Magnus broke ground on the park in 2022 and has constructed two 252,720-square-foot speculative buildings. Gateway One has 56,160 square feet leased to Mattress Warehouse, 56,160 square feet leased to Muc-Off and 140,400 square feet remaining for lease, according to Colliers. Gateway Three is fully leased to Givens Transportation Solutions. Gateway four is in the proposal stages.

Colliers markets 803 Park for its logistical advantages: the park is adjacent to Columbia Metropolitan Airport, the UPS regional air hub, the UPS ground hub, FedEx Freight and a Norfolk Southern transload rail terminal. The site is a mile from Interstate 26 and within two hours of the Port of Charleston.

Salley, Beard and Peebles handle leasing and marketing for the park, and Colliers’ Brittany Blanz is the property manager for Gateway One and Gateway Three.
