About: With a degree in design, interior designer Elisa Christine brings over 12 years of experience to each of her projects. The company is based in Charleston.

Top female executive: Elisa Christine, CEO/Interior Designer

What does it mean to you to be a women-owned business?

Being a first-generation American with immigrant parents from São Paulo, Brazil, I am not only the first in my family to graduate with a BA degree but also the first woman in the family to continue the legacy in construction and interior design.

My father, at age 14, was not only going to school but also working translating in Ukrainian and Portuguese for my grandfather’s roofing business. You could say that due to him keeping that “family tradition,” I first experienced and fell in love with design. Helping with the family construction business exposed me to physical labor, from tearing up carpet to demolishing baseboards and selling techniques dropping off flyers in mailboxes.

Family dinners consisted of learning negotiation tactics and listening to customer service situations, which built the tenacity I needed for my own business. It is more than “just a business,” it is in my soul knowing: “I was made for more” that I cannot give up. I believe that God builds certain gifts within all of us, and it is my duty to walk out in faith to see what is to come of it.

What challenges have you faced as a women-owned business?

Building Elisa Christine Interiors has been a path where I have tripped, scrapped my knees, bled, and cried, but I keep moving forward with faith.

In 2012 my business began with absolutely nothing – there were no savings, no bank loans, no family help, just the degree and skillset from my former years which I have built upon.

Construction is a man’s world but I have forged a unique position within the industry. Communication and delegating are one of the biggest conflicts in the Interior Design Industry among contractors/builders. Elisa Christine Interiors, helps solve those sticky situations by offering a set process that leaves the homeowner with assurance and trust.

As a strong woman with fresh ideas and perspective, there have been times that I have encountered situations where builders want to stay within their set ways and are afraid of change. This has been great for me to be able to educate and show how collaborations and new ways of looking at a project can be beneficial to the construction and interior design process.

How do you support women in your business and community?

I love to collaborate with and support women in our community beyond the scope of just work. I take part in multiple women’s community groups in the area which has been a game changer for me. It has reaffirmed that my business is a higher calling, and it has allowed me to help others with my expertise when they need it. I think we all need those fellow women in our corner, cheering us on and offering a sounding board when situations arise. I would not have had the courage to jump in with both feet without the guidance and support from fellow trades, they have helped shape my confidence to keep moving forward!

What recent accomplishments are you most proud of?

I have loved all the projects I have worked on as each one has been so different and has always required different variations of my skillset!

My most recent project with a custom home builder who found me through Instagram @elisachristineinteriors is up there at the top because of the huge scope of the project. I have been there from the start collaborating with the builder on design alterations on the floor plans, providing pricing on all materials, 3D renderings and much more! And the best part is that the clients have been blown away by being able to see what is in store for them through our 3D visuals.

Being a small woman owned business, I pride myself on delivering an elevated luxurious product such as, being a construction ambassador collaborating for both the client, and builder.

This project encompasses what Elisa Christine Interiors represents in the marketplace and I am excited for the final product!
