Executive Director
Leadership South Carolina
What are you most looking forward to in your new position?
It is an honor and a privilege to have been selected to build upon the incredible legacy left by the retiring executive. I’m most looking forward to the opportunity to craft new and innovative ways to enhance and elevate an already exceptional leadership experience. One of my key priorities will be exploring fresh approaches to delivering impactful sessions and presenting meaningful data to influential groups of leaders each year.
What is the biggest challenge facing your industry right now?
I believe a challenge facing our organization right now is striking the right balance in program delivery for our diverse audience — both long-time South Carolina residents and the growing number of class participants who are new to the state. We have a responsibility to ensure each group receives relevant, meaningful information, and doing so will require us to find creative and inclusive ways to present that content through a fresh, engaging lens that resonates with all participants.
What was your first job, and what did you learn from it?
When I was 16, I took a summer job at Bender-Burkot School Supply, working in the warehouse pulling orders for teachers and school staff. It was hot, the hours were long, and the work was physically demanding — but that job taught me a few lessons I’ve carried with me ever since. First, I learned that every role, no matter how small it may seem, contributes to the overall culture and success of a workplace. I still remember how the business owners would regularly check in with staff and lead by example, which showed me what true responsibility and leadership look like. Second, I gained a real appreciation for teamwork beyond sports or competition. In that warehouse, about 15 of us — from all backgrounds and walks of life — worked together every day. Our collaboration and shared effort created a genuinely enjoyable and productive environment.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever heard?
The best piece of advice I’ve ever heard is simple but powerful: don’t be afraid to say ‘no.’ Early in my career, I said ‘yes’ to everything, thinking it would help me grow or prove myself. Instead, I often found myself overworked and stretched too thin. Once I learned to use this advice effectively, I started saying ‘yes’ only to the things that truly aligned with my goals or values — leading to more meaningful work and a healthier balance.
What is something most people would be surprised to know about you?
Most people see me as reserved and mostly introverted, so they’re often surprised to learn how much I love live music. I make it a point to see as many shows as possible each year — usually in small venues featuring up-and-coming talent. There’s something about the energy of the crowd and the genuine passion these artists have for their music that really resonates with me.
