What are you most looking forward to in your new position?

Progressing in my field both professionally and personally. Tackling challenging projects with innovative and efficient methods.

What is the biggest challenge facing your industry right now?

The biggest challenge facing the surveying industry right now is finding people willing to do it. It is a very labor-intensive job, but one that can be very rewarding, especially to someone that loves the outdoors. Another huge challenge is technology and keeping up with it. Surveying technology evolves every day, and surveyors need to learn to adapt to this technology to stay efficient and competitive.

What was your first job, and what did you learn from it?

My first job was as a dishwasher at a local establishment in West Ashley. I learned that the food and beverage industry was not for me. I have a deep respect for servers and other workers in that industry now.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever heard?

Embracing failure as a lesson. Every mistake is an opportunity to grow stronger and wiser. We are all human and mistakes happen, it is what you do or learn from those mistakes that will determine future decisions.

What is something most people would be surprised to know about you?

Unlike at work where I can be a little outspoken, I am actually very shy around new people and terribly afraid of public speaking.
