Dumas and Sons is a distinguished menswear retailer with over a century of history and has been a cornerstone of the Charleston men’s fashion scene since 1917.
Lithuanian immigrant Mendel Dumas bought a pawn shop and converted it to a men’s store in 1917. Today, David Dumas is co-owner — with Gary Flynn — and plays an advisory role as the only family member with an active role in the business. Lauren Dumas-Schryver and Sally Dumas own the building where the King Street store is located.
Dumas has opened three stores and added an online shopping component over the last seven years as the company continues to grow and adapt. Over 108 years, the company has evolved from that pawn shop to a workwear store, to an outdoors store carrying hunting and fishing apparel, and now to a complete wardrobe store that carries everything from custom tuxedos to clothes to go fishing in.
