Founded in 1945 by J.C. Long with the purchase of Isle of Palms, The Beach Company was created to build affordable homes for returning WWII veterans. What was once a sparsely populated island is now a thriving coastal community. The company continues to own and manage key assets on the island, reflecting its long-standing commitment to community.
In its early years, the company lacked large-scale development experience and the governance structure needed for multigenerational growth, making expansion beyond Charleston challenging. Through steady growth, experience, new government, discipline and leadership, the company has evolved into a fifth-generation firm responsible for 800-plus employees operating in 27-plus Southeast markets across development, construction, investment and brokerage.
